External Renovation Bowdon

PJH Architectural Services have been brought in by our client to assist with their extension and external renovation project in Bowdon, Altrincham. Since we had been working on our client’s neigbour’s property which consisted of a large renovation project, we had the advantage of knowing the layout of the property very well.

Our client is an interior designer working within and around Hale and Bowdon, so had a good idea of what she wanted to achieve which was a combination of additional internal space for a large open plan kitchen/dining area, a separate home office and additional first floor bedroom, separate entrance porch and a more modern contemporary feel to the exterior of the property.

Starting with the ground floor, the property already had a generous footprint, as is often the case with detached properties in the Bowdon area, sometimes reconfiguring can save large amounts of money in extension costs and still produces amazing results. With the disjointed kitchen space running alongside an un-used garage, we decided to convert the garage space into internal usable space, which in turn allows for the existing kitchen to be dramatically increased in floor space.

The newly converted garage provides enough space to create the large open plan kitchen & dining space our client desired. Further to this a small extension to the side of the garage created a sizeable new office area, separate from the rest of the house. We have also looked to incorporate a large porch/ lobby area to the front to the property.

To the first floor we have extended to the side directly above the existing garage footprint, saving in steel costs and creating a generous master bedroom complete with en-suite and walk in wardrobe facilities.
With the external renovation, our client was desperate to change the existing mock Tudor cladding effect, as have many of their neighbours. By offering CGI visual services for our client, we were able to show them a variety different options. By removing the mock Tudor and re-rendering the first-floor elements of the principle elevations within a black timber clad border, we offered homage to the existing design whilst also offering a stylish contemporary look. Finishing the design with a series of new full height Crittall style windows and a rendered flat roof and aluminium soffit porch, the property now provides a more contemporary look and is more befitting to our client needs and tastes.
