PJH Architectural Services were appointed by our client to extend and reconfigure their 3-bedroom detached property on Lowther Road in Prestwich, Bury. Our clients looked to create an open plan kitchen/ dining area, playroom as well as adding an extra bedroom to the property with both a side and rear extension.
The ground floor had previously been extended to the rear with a small outrigger kitchen, which our client’s family had outgrown. We decided with the client to demolish the existing rear extension and look to extend the entire width of the rear elevation. The new open plan kitchen/dining area is complete with bi-folding doors and Velux roof lights, to maximise the amount of natural light into the room. The once under-utilised living room, has now been integrated within the open plan kitchen within the rear extension and now re-purposed as a snug area, allowing the whole family to feel together and connected in one open space.
To the side of the existing property initially stood a garage that our clients felt was underutilised. From this, we looked to use this potential space to better meet their needs. We decided to demolish the garage and extend to the side of property at both the ground and first floor, the addition of the ground and first floor bay windows to the side extension allowed for a more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing design to front elevation of the property.
The ground floor side extension not only further extended the new open plan kitchen/dining area, but enabled us to include a utility room, WC/ Shower room as well as a playroom for their children. The first-floor side extension was solely purposed to add a large master bedroom to the property and as per our clients request a very spacious walk in wardrobe and large en-euite complete with bath.
