Industrial refurbishment & reconfiguration, Lancashire
We were appointed by Slate Developments to assist them with their industrial refurbishment and modernisation project at the headquarters of Crown Paints in Darwen.
Having worked with Slate Developments on previous projects, we had a great & efficient working relationship. This gave them the comfort in approaching us to assist with their longstanding client, Crown Paints.
Crown Paints, owned by Hempel Group, is a major paint manufacturer based in Darwen, Lancashire and Is household name in the world of paint. Crown Paints has been operating in Derwen since 1777, when it opened it’s ‘Dob Meadows’ Print shop, their offices have remained in Darwen ever since.
Crown paints name and brand has grown over the years and is known throughout the world. The late Queen even visited their Darwen headquarters back in 1968, and they famously sponsored Liverpool FC between 1982 and 1988, which saw the team through some of their most successful seasons.
The brief – Industrial Refurbishment
Considering the property’s historical evolution through numerous extensions, we were honored to be invited by Slate Developments and Crown Paints to their headquarters. During our visit, we had the privilege of touring their laboratories and offices, providing us with valuable insights and knowledge.
Crown Paints’ property department presented us with a comprehensive scope of works. This plan outlined their proposed refurbishment, encompassing a wide range of internal improvements, including floors, walls, ceilings, lighting, electrical components, designated office spaces, internal partitions, ducting, and fixtures and fittings for their laboratories, offices, and amenity areas.
The design
We carried out a full measured and photographic survey of all the associated and effected areas. This enabled us to produce a set of existing floor plans which acted as the starting point for us to produce accurate proposed floor plans that clearly identified a full scope of works. These drawings could then be agreed and signed off internally by Crown Paints.
Tender
Our detailed and accurate floor plans, complete with a full scope of works for the whole of the ground floor laboratories, offices and amenity space, ensured that accurate tender costs could be provided and agreed before the works commenced on site, along with a detailed program of works which outlined the project duration. Given the distribution to the live laboratories, it was critical that the timeline for the proposed works was kept to a minimum.
Our detailed drawings also went on to form the construction drawings that were adhered to throughout the on-site works for this industrial refurbishment project.
