Luxury Super Home – Chatsworth Road, Worsley

Feasibility

PJH Architectural Services were appointed by our client to assist in their exciting new build dwelling project along the sought-after Chatsworth Road, in Worsley. Our clients purchased the existing property as a family home in 2009, however came to PJH with a bold vision in mind, aspiring to transform the plot to craft a luxury super home – a forever family home to be celebrated, taking advantage of the sizable plot within a highly desired area. The existing site is host to a quaint little bungalow, however vast residential development along the entirety of the road had left it feeling diminished and out of place, dwarfed by its neighbouring dwellings. It was this opportunity for the replacement of the existing 3-bed bungalow with the development of a carefully considered super home, harmonising with the neighbouring properties, that attracted our client – PJH were quickly brought on board to bring the project and vision into fruition.

Design

The brief developed alongside the client was simple yet detailed; the proposals sought to create a 6-bedroom luxury super home, complete with a series of amenity and recreation spaces designed for the ultimate in high quality living. Sitting harmoniously alongside the neighbouring dwellings, the super home was split onto 4 levels – a lower ground floor level for private amenity and recreation, the ground floor hosting the main social spaces, and the upper floors providing the sleeping accommodation.

Upon approach to the dwelling, vehicles are guided down towards the lower ground floor level, where a concealed entrance door leads into the underground garage – an approach fit for a Bond film. The lower ground floor level then splits off, leading up to the main dwelling, or continuing along to the entertainment hub of the super home; consisting of the private snooker room, state-of-the-art gym and sophisticated cinema room – everything you could need to never leave the house!

Moving up to the main dwelling, the principal entrance sees a grand two storey wall of glazing flood the circulation spaces with natural light, creating an inviting, open, light-filled entrance to the dwelling. A series of more private spaces are found to the front of the ground floor – a quiet family lounge to one side and the stately study to the other.  Moving through to the rear of the property is the expansive open plan living space, complete with feature kitchen island and piano/music corner. A wine wall lines the approach into the open plan living area which forms the social heart of the luxury super home. A series of floor to ceiling sliding doors allow for the space to flood out externally into the integrated patio area overlooking the natural views of the garden beyond. Saving the best until last, a series of steps lead down into an elegantly crafted, inviting swimming pool and sauna area, deftly interlinked to the main home through a light filled walkway.

Continuing up through the dwelling, a feature open staircase provides a focal point running through the centre of the dwelling, maximising elegance & lighting throughout the core of the proposals. The two upper storeys host a series of spacious, luxurious bedrooms each of which is compete with a dedicated walk-in wardrobe or dressing room, leading through to private en-suites – all culminating the unparalleled blend of comfort and sophistication. To the front of the dwelling, full height glazing frames views of the luscious tree lined street beyond, while to the rear, feature apex glazing takes advantage of the garden views out.

Exteriors and Visuals

Externally, the dwelling needed to sit harmoniously without the overall context of the street scene while standing proud and unique along the road. Having explored an array of previous projects completed by PJH Architectural Services, our client was open to design inspiration however was keen to utilise a traditional material palette in order to reflect the heritage of the Victorian dwellings within the surrounding Worsley area, as well as taking detail from the original bungalow on site to retain a sense of identity within the plot.

The final proposals for the luxury super home crafted a series of exterior elevations that are visually stunning. Opting to take inspiration from the traditional bay window detailing in the area, with a highly contemporary touch, the front elevation creates a focal point of the principal entrance which is framed by the stone clad bays either side. The full height apex glazing either side provides the essence of grandeur while sitting elegantly and comfortably within the plot through soft landscaping choices and a gently approach to the concealed below ground car park. A gentle touch of timber cladding pays homage to the original timber clad bungalow on site while softening the overall massing of the elevation.

A series of stunning visuals were produced in order to help our client get a thorough understanding of the luxury super home proposals being proposed, allowing them to get a true-to-life visualisation of the polished final product. Given the extensive nature of the works being proposed, the visuals also assist in the overall planning process, allowing neighbours and planning officials alike to see the proposals coming to fruition.
