PJH Architectural Services were appointed by our client to extend and redesign their recently purchased semi-detached property in Prestwich, Manchester. Having just purchased the existing 3-bedroom property, our clients wanted to mould it into a home that perfectly suits their needs in terms of space and layout. During our initial consultation we created a detailed brief to work from, with specific requirements and client driven ideas. From this we created several sketch proposals which met our client’s requirements, utilised the existing & potential space and kept within our client’s build budget.
Our client felt the ground floor layout of the existing property was too isolating and wanted an open layout and create a communal space for entertaining guests, while also finding space to add a WC/Wetroom, Utility and an integrated garage/storage space. With this in mind, we decided to extend to the rear and to the side, in the process demolishing the existing disconnected garage in the garden and the existing small side kitchen extension. The new space allowed us to add the new WC, utility & storage rooms. We created a parapet flat roof extension to house a large open plan kitchen/dining area, the flat roof was complete with two large roof-lights along with the introduction of rear facing sliding doors, full height windows and letterbox window. This maximised the amount of natural daylight available within the open plan space.
On the first floor our client wanted to create a large master bedroom while retaining the existing rooms. The first floor extension sits directly above the ground floor side extension. This new space was completely utilised by the new master bedroom, which was complete with a walk-in wardrobe leading to a large en-suite. To add more natural light to the first floor Juliet style doors were introduced to the rear of the bedroom and a light tunnel was introduced above the landing area.
